6mm Lapis Lazuli Rosary Lapis lazuli (/ˈlæpɪsˈlæzjʊli, –laɪ/), or lapis for short, is a deep blue metamorphic rock used as a semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color.
Today, mines in northeast Afghanistan are still the major source of lapis lazuli. Important amounts are also produced from mines west of Lake Baikal in Russia, and in the Andes mountains in Chile. Smaller quantities are mined in Italy, Mongolia, the United States, and Canada. At the end of the Middle Ages, lapis lazuli began to be exported to Europe, where it was ground into powder and made into ultramarine, the finest and most expensive of all blue pigments. It was used by some of the most important artists of the Renaissance and Baroque, including Masaccio, Perugino, Titian and Vermeer, and was often reserved for the clothing of the central figures of their paintings, especially the Virgin Mary.
Lapis is the Latin word for “stone” and lazulī is the genitive form of the Medieval Latin lazulum, which is taken from the Arabicلاجورد lājaward, itself from the Persian لاجورد lājevard, which is the name of the stone in Persian and also of a place where lapis lazuli was mined. “Lazulum” is etymologically related to the color blue and used as a root for the word for blue in several languages, including Spanish and Portuguese “azul”.

Delivery & Returns
Goods are usually posted as soon as possible after the order is received. There is no post at the weekends or bank (public) holidays. If there is a problem you will be informed of it. Please be aware that we are often at the mercy of the postal services and delivery agents. They will usually give an expected date but there may be mitigating circumstances like weather problems, strikes etc to delay the delivery. We always get a certificate of posting on overseas goods. This is a free service by the post office and is not insurance. The Royal Mail will not try to trace an item until 15 working days after it has been posted for local mail. For overseas mail, once it has knowingly left the country they have no trace on it as it has now gone into another country’s postal system. It is possible to get tracking but this is an added cost.
Should you be sent the wrong item and the fault is entirely ours we usually do not ask for the item to be returned due to the high costs of postage involved, but we are willing to replace it with the correct item or refund the payment made.
If you decide you do not want the item for any other reason, you are free to cancel the order. If the item has already been sent, we expect it to be returned in the condition it left us, before you receive a refund. You will be expected to pay the return postage.
Problems or complaints
If you need to complain about something you’ve bought, always come back to us and we will do our best to settle the problem or try to trace a missing parcel.
